Overview

Geocoding is the process of matching addresses to a point on the globe (latitude/longitude) and using that point against known regions. In most cases those regions are "census tracts", but they may also include counties or zip-codes. Once you have established regions where the points live "within", you are able to link information to that point. You can call the results of this process "location intelligence" which implies that you gain knowledge about those addresses and that knowledge helps you make decisions which can drastically improve your success.

Marketing our product to the highly regulated financial industry for more than ten years has helped mold our product into one of the very best and most accurate geocoding systems available today. Up to date, precise geocoding information is critical to a number of industries we serve.

Instant Geocoder was initially conceived to lower the extreme costs of geocoding massive amounts of loan applications. Our product saved the industry tens of thousands of dollars with its very first version, and that trend continues to this day.

We Give You Choices
Most geocoding systems are designed to provide a "no matter what" solution. Our design allows you to make some of those rare judgment calls when the provided address doesn't perfectly match the digital maps. Other systems typically pick the first potential match when several could be correct, thus returning incorrect information. Instant Geocoder is the only system that provides a list of all addresses within a zip code and possible alternatives in adjoining zip codes for your immediate selection.

Accuracy Matters

The single most required attribute for QuestSoft’s 8 million plus verifications per year is accuracy. In our primary markets, that attribute overrides everything from ease of use to integrations. Time and time again Instant Geocoder has been proven to be accurate in over 10,000 government banking audits.

Accuracy includes many factors, most importantly the source digital street maps, zip-code boundaries, and census-tract boundaries. A reduction of quality in any of these important pieces can result in lower matches and potentially incorrect results.

QuestSoft starts with NAVTEQ digital street data; the same data used by the vast majority of GPS systems, to achieve the highest level of street accuracy.  We then add industry leading zip-code and census-tract information.

You cannot geocode an address without first being able to break it down into its components and identify each portion to match with digital street maps. Street matching is quite an art form and every geocoding system uses different search methods that could provide different results even when using the same source data. It's highly important to match the correct information.

Instant Geocoder databases are regularly updated, and these updates are included in our licenses. More than 1 million new addresses and global positioning enhancements have been added in each of the past two years.

Instant Geocoder Editions

All of our geocoding products utilize the same high quality source digital street maps. All street segments are geocoded to census-tracts prior to building any of the editions shown below. The only question is what level of information you require for your project and/or specific needs. We have three edition levels in our product line, each having a higher level of detail (location / point) results. All editions have the same accuracy level in providing census-tracts.

Base Level Edition includes census-tract level results. This edition is installed in most instances today. It is also the most compact and easily downloadable onto your local environment. If your geocoding goal only requires census-tract level information, this is the best choice. With census-tract level accuracy, you can determine all the information that is available from the Census Bureau as well as from other sources. The Base Level Edition is a mere 120MB in size for the entire United States and available from the QuestSoft Download Center.

Plus Level Edition adds a street-segment level point location. Street segment points are useful when you just need to place a point on a map, but do not need exact positioning. Generally, street-segment points can be up to 50-200 yards from the actual location. This edition adds Google Maps™ and Microsoft Bing™ map links to our user interface, which enables users to visually identify the point against real map layouts. This product is approximately 400MB in size and can be easily downloaded from the QuestSoft Download Center.

Address Level which is also described as "house-level" or "rooftop-level" provides a calculated point on the street segment based on the address number position within the short address range. This level of location is really only necessary when you wish more accurate distance information between points - usually only used for routing purposes. At this time, this edition is only available through the QuestSoft hosted public SOAP web-service.

Developers

Instant Geocoder can be incorporated into any application that contains an address. Whether to provide census tracts, verify proper spelling, cross reference zip codes and cities or return latitude/longitude for mapping; Instant Geocoder is the quickest way to a happy customer.

Providing a Windows user interface has been the foundation of our product and is still the leading method of interfacing our deliverable database with other products and systems. However, we also have a dedicated SOAP Web-Service as well, providing geocoding through simple XML transmission methods.

Windows DLL
The very simple and straightforward Windows DLL interface will allow you to get started with both individual and batch geocoding in very little time with minimal coding. Using the DLL interface does not require the use of our visual interface. Our user interface allows us to improve the user experience by adding more features and capabilities that may be difficult and/or impossible to integrate into another product. Future versions will include displays of census information, integrated maps, and integrated census-tract overlays.

SOAP Web-Service
We have crafted a stand-alone Windows service acting as its own web-server (HTTP server) with a SOAP style interface system to request geocoding. QuestSoft maintains a publicly hosted SOAP web-service if you do not wish to host it locally. Simple authentication information is all you need to interface.

Programs / Utilities (Included) QuestSoft provides a set of supplemental utilities to start using the product immediately including a quick address lookup program and a simple batch program for geocoding large numbers of records.

Demographics

Generally once you geocode an address you will want to match the location with demographic information. Usually this involves a secondary step of connecting to another database and matching the geocode values.

Instant Geocoder has a built-in demographics retrieval system so this step is effectively eliminated. You may request data from multiple modules at once, which can be based on different levels of geocodes (State, MSA, County, and Census-Tract).

You can always use the geocodes to match demographic information yourself, or you may want QuestSoft to build a module for your needs. The demographics modules are built to make the process of finding the data extremely quick and efficient.

We currently have a set of modules for the mortgage / lending / financial industry, which is perfect for use in determining lending opportunities. Banks and institutions operating under the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) will also find this information highly useful in meeting the institution's needs in determining underserved areas. This includes a large set of data from FFIEC, HUD, FNMA, and FHA.
