Frequently Asked Questions about using HMDA RELIEF
1. Why am I getting V385 errors after updating HMDA RELIEF?
A: If after updating HMDA RELIEF you suddenly have V385 errors (requiring denial reasons on denied loans) uncheck the box under SETUP>Preferences that requires denial reasons. .
2. How come Total LAR records do not match with Total Year records?
A: Most likely you cancelled the testing process while HMDA RELIEF is testing records. Re-test Data Base and let it complete 100% of the testing.
3. I can't see my LOS from the Import Data Base drop down.
A: Go to the Setup Button, go to LOS Setup under Available Screens and select your LOS
4. How do I send a Geocoding Outsource file and how do I load the Return file?
A: To send Outsource file: Go to Geocoding Button, select Create Outsource, choose E-Mail to QuestSoft Geocoding Services if you will be using E-Mail (preferred by QuestSoft) to send the information. Your e-mail service must be able to use Microsoft Outlook compatible e-mail for this feature. All relevant information necessary for us to process your request will be automatically completed. All you should need to do is press the Send button. Load Return File: After processing, you will be sent a file named GCReturn.zip. Simply return to the Geocoding Button, select Load Outsourcing under Available Screens. Select the location where you saved the file on your computer and press Load Outsourcing.
5. Why am I getting a duplicate record screen after I imported records?
A: The Duplicate Record Screen allows you to choose between two or more records with the same Application/Loan number, pick the fields that are correct, and combine them into a single record. (Duplicate Loan/App numbers are unacceptable for submission.) Duplicates checking is run every time you test the database.
Exact duplicates (all 70+ fields have same values) are automatically deleted without any assistance from you. Duplicates where one or more fields are different are displayed. You then have a choice to adjust this one duplicate or establish a pattern to handle additional duplicates that may exist. The Selected Values column always lets you know what the record will be consolidated into if you accept the selections. Since nothing happens until you press the Accept Selections button and since you can Skip All Dups to start over, we recommend you play with all of the features until you feel comfortable.
6. How can I protect all the work I did in my database?
A: HMDA RELIEF has a complete backup system contained in the Utilities option of the menu bar. The options you may select under Available Screens are as follows;
Backup - Provide a name of the file. It can be as simple as "HMDA Backup".
Restore - This option will OVERWRITE your existing HMDA file. Once restored, there will be no way to retrieve previous records unless they were backed up under a separate database.
Empty Database - Deletes ALL records from the currently active database. This is often used in situations where an initial import brought in errant loans and you wish to "start over" again.
7. My machine locked up, I did CTRL+ALT+DEL and when I went back into HMDA RELIEF , total record count is now way below the original record count.
A: Exit out of the program, go to the installation folder of HMDA RELIEF, look for a file named HMDADB6.dbf and drag into the Import folder. Open your HMDA program, go to Import/Export, select HMDA-RELIEF Database from the drop down list and Browse to the Import folder to find the file with a .dbf extension. Click OK and Start. This should bring up your original database before the machine locked up.
8. Is there a faster way to edit and correct records with errors?
A: Group Edits (found under "Loan Records) are present when HMDA RELIEF detects error conditions in the database which can be automatically corrected.
The list of Group Edits available, will change based on the errors present in your data. Note that the number in brackets at the end of each Group Edit represents the number of loans in the database that contain the error this Group Edit will correct. Group Edits are coded in BLUE and RED.
Blue Edits: These are typically self explanatory and should require little research. For example, if you never do HOEPA loans OR the loan is a Home Purchase then the HOEPA status must be set to “Not a HOEPA Loan”, and selecting this group edit will fix the error.
Red Edits: These should only be selected after you have researched the problem and concluded that the Group Edit is appropriate to your situation. Oftentimes RED Group Edits are used after exhausting all other corrective measures.
9. I keep separate databases for each quarter I process. How do I merge all 4 quarters before submitting my HMDA report?
A: Go to Import/Export, Select HMDA RELIEF Backup file from the Import Database drop down list. Click Browse to go to HR200x\Backup Folder then select the file you choose to import.
10. When I import more records, does it add to, or overwrite the records I already have in HMDA RELIEF?
A: Importing more records into your HMDA RELIEF appends to your current database unless you have duplicate loan numbers. Exact duplicates are deleted.
